Itinerary

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN COCHIN
Our representative will meet you at a location convenient to you in Cochin and transfer you in an air-conditioned vehicle to your hotel of stay. Check-in at your pre-booked hotel.

After checking-in at the hotel, set out on an afternoon sightseeing tour of Cochin - a fishing port and cosmopolitan hub. Accompanied by an English-speaking guide, you will visit the Jewish Synagogue, Dutch Palace at Mattancherry island and St. Francis Church, the oldest European church in India. See the huge Chinese fishing nets believed to have been brought to Kochi by Chinese traders. Lastly, you will halt at the Willingdon Island, an artificial island created from the sand dug out while deepening Kochi port. It has been named after Lord Willingdon, the erstwhile Madras governor, who was instrumental in implementing the island project.
After exploring the major attractions of Cochin, return to your hotel and spend the night.

DAY 2: COCHIN – KUMARAKOM
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be taken on a scenic drive to Kumarakom near Kottayam, about 90 kilometers from Cochin.

At Kumarakom, check-in at a backwater resort. Nestled on the shores of Kerala’s Vembanad Lake, Kumarakom is a beautifully sleepy village ideal for a laidback holiday. Boating, fishing and sightseeing options abound here.

You are at leisure for the rest of the day. Spend the night at your hotel.

DAY 03: KUMARAKOM – ALLEPPEY (HOUSE BOAT)
The backwaters of Kerala are a unique product of Kerala and are found nowhere else in the world. Backwaters are a network of lakes, canals and estuaries and deltas of forty-four rivers that drain into the Arabian Sea. The backwaters of Kerala are a self supporting Eco-system teeming with aquatic life. The canals connect the villages together and are still used for local transport. Over 900 km of this labyrinthine water world is navigable.

Check into a traditional houseboat of Kerala Style and go on a leisurely backwater cruise along the lake on a thatched houseboat. The houseboat with all modern comforts lets you discover the countryside at your own pace. You will have lunch, dinner and breakfast in the Houseboat. A ride on the houseboat is a fabulous way to explore the fascinating beauty of the backwaters.

Dinner will be on the boat. Overnight will be at Houseboat.

DAY 4: HOUSEBOAT - PERIYAR
After breakfast, disembark and drive on a scenic route dotted with plantations of rubber, cardamom, cocoa, green pepper and areca nut, to the wildlife reserve at Periyar. Located about 155 kilometers away, it will take you about 4 hours to reach Periyar.

The river Periyar is the longest river in Kerala. This is the only perennial river in South India with clean water. The river occupies an important place in the history of Kerala. In the Sangam age Tamil epics such as Chilapathikaram, 'Akananuru', 'Purananuru' etc much has been said about this mighty river, formerly known as the 'Choorni Nadi' or 'Thamraparni Nadi'. A land route existed in the Sangam age from Mussuris (present-day Kodungalloor) to Madurai, which passed near the banks of the river Periyar. The capital of the old Chera Empire presumably existed on the banks of the river Periyar. It is believed that there was a flood in the 4th century AD that severely damaged the areas along the Periyar and the people living there had to escape to safer locations, abandoning their homes and livelihoods. The flood of AD 1341 resulted in the closing of Kodungalloor port and the opening of a new port at Kochi. The huge landslide that began in the high ranges as a result of the heavy downpours sent massive flows of mud and sand which created an Island at the 'Azhimugham' of the Periyar, which is now known as the Vyppin Islands. Periyar wildlife sanctuary is home to nomadic tribes of wild elephant, boar, deer, the great Indian tiger and more.

Upon arrival in Periyar, check-in at the hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure; you can walk around the peaceful town known for its fragrant spice and coffee plantations.

Overnight stay at your hotel in Periyar.

DAY 05: PERIYAR - MUNNAR
Breakfast will be at the resort.

Enjoy the boat ride through Periyar Lake - Wildlife sanctuary. You can visit the rare species of plants and animals.

In the afternoon, set out on a scenic drive to the hill station of Munnar, about 160 kilometers from Periyar.

Upon arrival in Munnar, check-in at the hotel. Overnight stay at your hotel in Munnar.

DAY 06: MUNNAR
Spend the day relaxing in Munnar, taking in the scenic beauty of this hill station. Munnar is situated near the Anaimudi Peak, the highest peak in the Western Ghats at an altitude of 6000 feet from the sea level.
Munnar’s sprawling tea gardens with tall trees jutting out of sharp cliffs and flecked with wildflowers in a riot of colors, make it look like a painter’s canvas.

You might want to take a drive around and explore the points of sightsee. Spot little wisps of cloud drift past you and shroud the tea estate that was conspicuous only a while ago. All along you will be serenaded by the sound of gurgling brooks or waterfalls seeping through narrow rocks. Pause on the way, maybe to buy farm fresh carrots from a hawker or small souvenir shops selling wooden artifacts and a range of authentic spices.

Overnight stay at your hotel in Munnar.

DAY 07: MUNNAR -COCHIN
After a sumptuous breakfast at your hotel, drive to Cochin about 135 kilometers from Munnar. Upon arrival in the city, check-in at a pre-booked hotel for your overnight stay. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Overnight at the Hotel.
